In the 1970's, California-based engineer, inventor and musician Don Underwood came up with the pickup's design to prove theories he had developed about the operation of the viol bridge. We have used the same design for 40 years. Each bass pickup is still proudly handmade in the USA by the Underwood family. All pickups are meticulously tested at every stage to ensure consistency and quality of work. Our products always have and always will be guaranteed.

Matched Quality for our Pickup
Released in 2018 for our 40th year, we are pleased to offer a bass viol instrument cable designed and engineered by Don Underwood to accompany our bass pickup. The Belden® cable perfectly matches the signal of our piezo-based pickup. And Switchcraft® Ball Tip plugs align exactly with the 1/4” female jack. This makes for a desirable Hi-Fidelity, Low Capacitance and Low Noise cable. Each cable is handmade to specs matching our bass pickup. While it is designed with the Underwood Pickup in mind, this cable may be used as a quality high end acoustic bass cable on it’s own.
